Paris
is the largest city and the capital of France, but is better known as the most romantic city in the world.

The beautiful cathedrals, the art galleries, museums and delightful cuisine are what make Paris one of the most visited cities. Not to mention Disneyland Paris, the ideal place for any family to spend their vacation.

Paris has had many influences over the years with its earliest settlers living there in 4200BC. With Germanic Frank and Roman influences, this city offers some awe inspiriting architecture.

Paris has many famous attractions and landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Champse-Elysees. A holiday in Paris wouldn’t be the same without visiting these famous sites.

Other attractions that should not be missed are the Cathedral Notre-Dame, which was built in 1163 but has been restored to its former glory.

The wonderful thing about visiting Paris, whether for a romantic holiday or a family vacation is there is so much to do and see.

Paris is filled with museums including the Petit Palais, the home of fine art, the Calerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, which is the contemporary art museum and the Guimet Museum, which is the Asian art museum.

Paris is also filled with the most beautiful parks with horseback riding, kayaking, sailing, hiking and bicycling. There are also 60 golf courses in the city and you can purchase one pass that will enable you to access various clubs.

During the summer you can enjoy the Paris Plage, a very unusual beach which runs for two miles between a wall and the promenade. Here you can play volleyball and other great beach sports, or just lie back and soak up the sun.

Paris is lined with avenues, squares and alleys and driving is not always an easy option. Bicycling is very big in Paris and is one of the most used modes of transport. There are 200 bicycle lanes and lots of bicycle hires companies throughout the city where you can hire bicycles to get around.

Other popular modes of transport include the metro with fourteen lines, regional trains, trams and a very reliable public bus service which has fifty eight lines.

Boulevard Peripherque is one of the busiest highways in Europe, this large double carriage ring road can leave you shaking if you don’t know where you are going, so travelling to Paris by air or the Eurostar high speed train can enable you to arrive refreshed and ready to start an exciting adventure.

Paris is filled with magnificent hotels, often they offer discounted rates in quieter periods, so if you’re thinking of travelling on a budget, you may prefer to take advantage of a mid-week break or an out of season holiday.

There are lot’s of things that you can check out at the hotel’s where you had checked in like trying out the amenities that they offer such as bars, restaurants and even casinos if you would want to try your luck in playing some blackjack or roulette games, and who knows you might get some luck then it could make your vacation really a fantastic one.

While staying in a hotel is wonderful and you can enjoy the advantages of room service and a concierge desk, many people choose to rent apartments for their stay. Apartments are cheaper than hotels and you don’t have the benefit of a restaurant or room service, but you do have the ability to be private, cook your own meals and find an apartment in the location of your choice.

Apartments in Paris for holidays range in nightly and weekly rates depending on the number of bedrooms you need. Most of them are equipped with cooking facilities, washing machines and cable television. The other benefit of apartments is they often have wireless internet available free of charge, unlike the surplus charge you can incur at the hotels in the area.

In the exhibit is the restoration of The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. This restoration has taken eighteen long months, a painting which took da Vinci twenty years to paint.

The sketch books and diagrams give you a peek at one of the most famous artists with diagrams showing how da Vinci spent his years studying light on opaque objects, a technique which made him famous.

The diagrams show how he used mathematics and combined it with his artistic flair to come up with new techniques for his paintings and many of these techniques can be seen on this unveiled painting that is now available for public viewing.

Paris Hotel Prices by Star Rating

Published on April 11, 2012 by in Posts

Everyone takes a close look at a hotel’s star rating before booking, we all know that two stars is basic accommodation while four or five stars is sheer luxury. Did you know that stars are also awarded for on-site restaurants, health spas and fitness centers?

This may cause some confusion, because this may mean that a three star hotel is actually as good as the four stars you were looking at but doesn’t have an on-site restaurant or swimming pool.

Four Star Luxury

In Paris, you can expect to pay for the higher star ratings with four star hotels costing around 200 Euros per night, such as the prestigious Napoleon Hotel, just a short stroll from Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe or the beautiful Horset Opera, which is conveniently situated close to Galeries Lafayette department store.

But what do you get for your money when you stay in a four star establishment? Well the first is luxury and comfort, then there is parking, an on-site restaurant, bar, newspaper service, airport shuttle and free wi-fi.

Three Star Elegance

If travelling for a family holiday, a three star hotel may be just what you are looking for. These range from 140 to 199 Euro. A room at Hotel Le Walt offers you a comfortable bedroom with views of the Eiffel Tower, you also enjoy a buffet breakfast served to your room. There is a bar, wi-fi and a safety deposit box for you to store all your valuables while out sightseeing.

On the higher end of three stars is the elegant Elysa-Luxembourg, offering luxurious rooms with exquisite marble bathrooms. The perfect location for the romantic getaway.

Three Star Comfort

Three star hotels are considerably cheaper costing from 110 to 140 Euro per night. A good example is the comfortable Best Western Trianon Rive Gauche set in the city center and is an ideal base if you intend doing a lot of sightseeing while visiting Paris.

Arc de Triomphe in Paris

Paris Charles de Gauille Airport

This international airport is situated only fourteen miles from Paris and is one of the busiest European airports.  Charles de Gauille Airport handles both international and national flights and gets overcrowded during busy times.

The airport offers restaurants and bistros where you can relax while waiting for your flight and also has car rental companies, bus terminals and airport shuttles available to get you to your destination with ease.

Transport

Getting around Paris is easy, there is such a large network of buses, trains and commuter rails to get you where you want to go.  The metro track runs for two hundred kilometers and is home to three hundred and seventy stations. The metro trains usually run from 5.30am to midnight.

Regional trains run between the Paris suburbs and also run from 5.30am to midnight, while the public bus system is extensive and runs from 6.30am to 21.30pm, but there are night buses available which will run until 1am.

Tickets generally range from 1.50 Euro for a single ticket, though a carnet is a book of ten tickets which can save you a lot of money.  The metro pass is an unlimited ticket which you purchase for two to five days depending on the length of your stay.  The metro pass gives you access to all the public transport during your stay and it also offers discounts on certain attractions in Paris.

Restaurants and Cafes

Paris is bustling with street cafes, fine dining restaurants and quaint bistros giving the whole family somewhere to enjoy.  Dining available from traditional French cuisine to Chinese take-outs, there is no end to the international flavors available on the Paris strips.

Prices vary depending on the restaurant you choose, bistros can cost up to 50 Euro per meal.  The advantage is that many restaurants open late into the night, so you always have somewhere to go for a late night snack.

Nightlife

If you’re eager for a night on the town when visiting Paris you will not be disappointed.  Paris is home to many busy nightlife districts whether you want to dance the night away or enjoy a sumptuous cocktail or a glass of wine in a trendy wine bar.

Oberkampf is a popular nightlife area; it does get very overcrowded but is where the Parisians go, so it will be something to remember.  Bastille district is aimed at the younger crowd with music venues, nightclubs and late night cafes while the Champs-Elysees is a great night out if you want to get dressed up.

Museums and Schedules

Paris is home to over seventy museums and a museum pass is the best way for you to enjoy some heritage and culture while visiting the most romantic city in the world.  The museum pass gives you access to all the museums without needing to wait in line and you can visit each museum as many times as you wish during your stay.

When buying museum passes bear in mind that anyone under eighteen gains free entry into museums anyway, so buying a pass for a teenager will be a complete waste of money.

Museums are usually closed on a Monday or Tuesday and are open from 9am to 6pm the rest of the week.

Museums and monuments that are open seven days a week include the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Paris Attractions

There are some attractions you must see when visiting Paris and these include the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum.

Of course if you’re looking for fun and exciting attractions to do with the children during your stay spend a day at Disneyland Paris, Sea Life, Parc Zoologique or see the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione Paris.
